I worked with Sida for years and had heard some of her stories, but reading this book gave me a better perspective of the hardships the Cambodians were forced to endure. The text comes to life as Sida describes her family in joyous times and in horrific, fearful, and sad times. The feelings are tangible. I knew Sida to be a smart, capable, woman with a loving and kind nature. Now I know her as a courageous heroine! Congratulations on your book. I hope you will continue to write!
I heard quite a lot of Sida’s story from her own lips as I sat transfixed in the break room where I worked with her at Inova Central Laboratory. When I heard that she had finally published this book, I couldn’t wait to read it. I read the entire book in one sitting. Knowing the kind of person Sida is just made the entire book even more meaningful to me. To know that a person filled with so much love, so much kindness, so much faith, and so much devotion could endure and triumph over such evil circumstances is inspirational to me. I’m certain that anyone reading this book would feel the same. I have to be honest, I cried many times while reading her memoir. Congratulations Sida!
